Don’t dream it’s over

Don’t dream its over…a message from the dreamstate

Art by Kaet

This came to me in the early hours of the morning – the MS hours, 2-3am just when you should be getting the deep sleep our bodies need. Alas…that’s also the twitching time for me when the leg spasms start firing up or cramps hit !

If Pugzilla (Lilly for the uninformed) is sleeping on the bed…which I do allow occasionally when the wind is blowing or its colder than usual; this twitching sends her into bark/alert-mode …I guess she wakes up with a fright …alerting the Destroyer (aka the Jake) who is in like the Flash to see what’s up !!!!! This is usually closely followed by him bringing his ball to me …cute …but not at 3am.

I digress as per usual.

I was in a dream, where unfortunately I had MS …initially years ago I still dreamed that I was able bodied- my dreams filled with squash rallies or expeditions on my bicycle, fly-fishing streams and the big blue. Now I dream of stumbling along, thinking in advance of access , steps  like mountains. I guess reality has taken over my dreams too.

Anyhooo , I was in a cinema and for whatever reason there was a pre-seating with an introduction after which you went through to the main seating area with a specific seat allocation. I started panicking when everyone got up to move to their allocated seats, worried about how I was going to manage the stairs, crowds , …needless to say that was the signal my body didn’t need…a signal to wake up.

Alexa …what’s the time. The time is 2:50am…yeah right…awesome ☹

By this time, I was already thinking, the worst thing to do in the early hours after only two hours sleep. The positive take is that the song by Crowded House was playing loudly in my mind…enough to make me think really hard about what I was been told.

Don’t dream its over ??? I guess to make the most of what I have (still) ? It’s never really over until well I guess … it is ?

Alexa…what ‘s the time. The time is 3:45 am …

No surprise then today (Wednesday) started with a song inspiring me to reflect on where I am in my journey. And…several espresso’s 😊

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There’s a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you’ll never see the end of the road
While you’re traveling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win

Now I’m towing my car, there’s a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there’s no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win

Now I’m walking again to the beat of a drum
And I’m counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and release

Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win

Don’t let them win (hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now)
Hey now, hey now
Don’t let them win (they come, they come)
Don’t let them win (hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now)

There are many inspirational songs that i’m sure abound, lately I have been finding difficulty in seeing the positive in everything, sometimes there just isn’t …despite the Stoic readings, despite the positive mindset, I guess despite everything. That’s when Faith comes in …”Things can only get better” ( one of my 80’s heroes Howard Jones…)

A little digression again…sure ! One of the greatest disappointments in my life was when lance Armstrong finally was found out for doping. In my avid cycling days he was my idol, fighting back from cancer, fighting the effects of chemo…and then poof, my hero became just another cheat. Truth be told I have his last book (the others were all read from cover to cover , a few times) never opened – I was that disappointed.

He did however make his mark, for me still a mantra.

So, coming back to Howard Jones, Things can only get better … can they really ?

We’re not scared to lose it all security throw through the wall
Future dreams we have to realize
A thousand skeptic hands won’t keep us from the things we plan
Unless we’re clinging to the things we prize

And do you feel scared, I do
But I won’t stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better
Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

Treating today as though it was the last, the final show
Get to sixty and feel no regret
It may take a little time a lonely path, an uphill climb
Success or failure will not alter it

And do you feel scared, I do
But I won’t stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better
Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

And do you feel scared, I do
But I won’t stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better

(Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh)
(Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh)

Love his lyrics, love his music (No one is to blame another favorite !)

Of course, this isn’t a song about blind faith, there is no easy fix for all our issues. It does however suggest that life carries on and that hardship is part of the journey, as the Stoic reading below puts it..sorry Stones, you nailed it years ago !

This week , at least half-way through the fingers have been responsive…I got in early 😊, I think just as well as the sleep faeries have done their best to deny me sleep almost every night this week…oh well , tonight will be different ! I’m hearing a song coming on …( Matthew Wilder …ain’t nothing gonna break my stride …)

Seth G …take it away…to the sound of “Time Machine” (yes it’s back !)

What does ‘better’ mean?

It’s trickier than it sounds. It’s often conflated with ‘quality’ (which means consistent adherence to spec) and ‘luxury’ (which means it costs more than it needs to).

Here’s the thing: Swedish matches are better. They might be the best in the world. They do everything a match should do–but better. They light more quickly, burn hotter, and give more match satisfaction.

Except you probably don’t have a box in your house.

Because you don’t care that much about matches.

Because for you (and for billions of non-match-loving people around the world), this sort of better isn’t your sort of better. Your sort of better, when it comes to matches, might be: free and handy.

The lesson is simple: better is always in the eye of the beholder.

So the lesson, Don’t dream it’s over, Things can only getter better …find out what you really need , not what you just want.

Here’s to a great weekend and better days ahead , now where is my espresso ?

Word 😊

  1. Love that Crowded House song.

Daniel please excuse my ignorance… I was just curious but with MS…are there times when you feel normal or is it always something going on?
I was tested for it before and thankfully for me it came back negative. It ended up being a disc on a nerve.
